FAQs
How is the box made?
Each box is hand-lacquered in Echizen, Japan, by a fourth-generation family workshop. Five coats of urushi are applied by hand, each cured and polished before the next is laid down. From raw wood base to finished box takes around three months per piece. No two are identical.
What's urushi?
Urushi is the sap of the lacquer tree, harvested, filtered, and tinted by hand. It's been used in Japanese lacquerware for over 1,500 years. Cured urushi is remarkably tough — resistant to water, heat, and acids — and the finish deepens with age. The boxes are designed to be used daily and passed down.
How many watches does it hold?
Four. The interior cushions are sized to fit most men's and women's watches up to roughly 48mm case diameter, including dive watches and chronographs.
What's the furoshiki?
Every box ships wrapped in a furoshiki — a traditional Japanese cloth used for gift wrapping. It's part of the box, not an extra. Designed so the box arrives gift-ready without further packaging.
Why does the lid lift off instead of hinge?
Drilling hardware into urushi would damage the lacquer. The lid lifts off cleanly, which protects the finish and lets the lacquer age evenly across the entire surface.
How do I care for it?
Wipe with a soft dry or barely damp cloth. Avoid solvents, alcohol-based cleaners, and prolonged direct sunlight. Urushi cures harder with age — small surface marks from early use tend to settle in rather than worsen.
Shipping in Hong Kong?
Free, across all of Hong Kong. Orders ship within 1–2 business days from our Hong Kong inventory.
International shipping?
Yes, we ship worldwide. Rates are calculated at checkout. International orders typically arrive within 7–12 business days. Any customs fees or import duties are the buyer's responsibility.
Returns?
If your box arrives damaged in transit, contact us within 7 days of delivery and we'll arrange a replacement or full refund. For other returns, we accept unused boxes in original packaging within 14 days. Because each box is handmade and this is a final run, please look closely at the listing photos before ordering — small variations in lacquer depth and grain are part of the craft, not defects.
Is this really the final run?
Yes. Decima Japan is winding down. Once the current inventory sells through, there won't be more.
